Be Careful For Nothing

By Jay Pearson

Philippians 4:6:
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

God would not have us to be anxious and uptight. He doesn't want us to be fearful of man or situations and what he or they can do to us. God wants us to trust in his power to love and protect.

One of the definitions stated in one dictionary defined trust as "certainty based on experience, the synonym being reliance." In the same dictionary believing was defined as "accepting as truth."

Proverbs 29:25:
The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

The fear of anything other than God brings a snare also. God wants to hear from you. He is ready to help and keep your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.

When you pray with thanksgiving, know that God doesn't say, "Not him again." He is actually delighted when you seek Him.

Proverbs 15:8:
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

You are the upright, because of what Jesus Christ has accomplished and you are complete in him. It is God's will that you pray and make supplication and intercession for yourself and others.

1 Timothy 2:1-4:
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

We know it is God's will for us to pray, to request , to praise, to intercede, and to be thankful for ourselves and others. This will keep us trusting in him and we won't be anxious or troubled in heart so often.

Abiding in him is a peaceful place of trust.

Isaiah 26:4:
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Psalm 18:2-3:
2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

When we are careful, anxious, troubled and doubting it breeds false imaginations growing in the mind. We often call them scenarios. Virtual reality videos rated "DW" for doubt and worry. These imaginations take on a life in themselves. Below is an exaggerated example:

A mother thinking: It's my little Johnny's first day of school. I'll bet he got lost when he got off the bus. He probably wandered into the street and got hit by a car! Or maybe some bad man kidnapped him. I might not see him again till he grows up and has my grandkids. What if he was hit by that car and taken to the hospital! I don't know if his underclothes are clean. What will the nurse think about us? I need to go to school right now and see him. He could be in the wrong class or worse. There could be a terrorist taking over the school. HELP ME LORD! I'VE GOT TO FIND HIM.

The mother arrives at school frantic and finds her son on the playground having the best time of his life with the teacher watching over them all. The son's joy with his new friends can't be overstated. His mother's heartache and upset stomach is just as real.

False imaginations or scenarios produce real physical consequences when allowed to harbor. Trusting God issues in faith toward God and we experience more or His faithfulness and trust even more. These virtual reality videos in our minds happen so easily, but it is just as easy to think on these things. Picture yourself abiding in Christ and walking in the newness of life.

Philippians 4:8:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Hebrews 11:6:
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Be careful for nothing.

Philippians 4:6-7:
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Don't worry, be happy. Trust in the Lord.

1 Peter 5:7:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Matthew 6:25-34:
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

There is not one of us, as believers, here or reading this that God has not delivered and is yet delivering this day. We are complete in Christ and delivered.

Colossians 1:13-14:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego said it best when they answered the king about bowing down to his man made image. Paraphrased: Our God is able to deliver us for your hand, but if he does not we still will not serve your gods or bow down to your golden image.

Or as a Hoosier might say it, "We'll take God's lovin' over your oven." Amen.

Proverbs 15:8:
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18:
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Trust in God, rely on him in every situation of daily living. Be careful for nothing and call upon His name in thankfulness, faith, and trust.

Psalm 121:1-8:
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
