WHERE THY FEET TREAD

By Rev. F. Jay Pearson

This message is primarily for the born-again Christian seeking to follow the Lord. For all who read this message, may the Lord open your heart to receive the gift of Holy Spirit that you might experience salvation from Jesus Christ and follow in his steps as he guides you.

I thank God for my salvation and yours. We have been saved by the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t have to prove that to you, or you to me. We know it, we believe it, and we trust in it. Be always honest with yourself and the Lord. Jesus is our savior. The Holy Spirit has moved to bring this salvation to pass. We have not saved ourselves, but were saved by the Lord Jesus Christ who chose us in him. He continues to lift us up as we stumble through this life.

Now the Word is a lamp unto our feet. The Word shows us where we are and where our standing lies. We are saved by his grace and mercy in and of him. The next step is ours to take. The Word is also a light unto our path. The Lord has enlightened the path for us to see the way he desires us to go. The Lord goes before us and bids us to follow in his steps. Our next step is an important step for our fellowship with the Lord. Will we go where he has tread, in the path he has chosen and enlightened for us, or will we choose a detour?

Psalm 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalm 23:1-2
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

The most important decision for the born-again Christian today after salvation is not which church to attend or what to do or what not to do, but who are we going to follow as Lord of our life. Jesus is both Savior and Lord. Will we follow our own coveting desires, will we follow the urgings of others, or the path the Lord has tread? The Lord will lead us if we are willing to follow.

Saul asked a very important question when encountered by the Lord on the road to Damascus. He asked the Lord what he would have him to do. The Lord answered him without hesitation. He will also give us the godly desires to serve him as Lord.

Psalm 32:8-9
8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

Many people will attempt to put a bit in your mouth and bridle you to lead you where they want or think you should go. Let us not be as the horse or the mule void of understanding. Let us seek the Lord for understanding, guidance, and the desire to serve him as Lord of our life. The Word is a light unto our path. Where will our feet tread next? Will you follow the Lord, or will we seek a detour?

Psalm 37:3-5
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

That is the Lord’s promise to us. He blazed the trail to glory. Where do we get this understanding?

Proverbs 2:1-6
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

My prayer for us is that the Lord would give us understanding as we seek it on the path that the Word has enlightened for us as we tread where his feet tread in obedience to the Father.

Psalm 73:24
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and   receive me to glory.

I know who your savior is, Jesus Christ. Who is the Lord of your today, this moment, and the rest of your life? Only you can continue to answer that question with each step you tread.

Psalm 32:8
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Thank you Jesus. May we follow where your feet tread in the path you have enlightened for us to follow in obedience.
