The Heart

By Bennie Flores

This message builds on a passage of Scripture that Jay used in his message last Sunday:

Hebrews 3:12-14:
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

We know if we are doing a good thing or not. As my son Caleb told me last night, “We all have our Jiminy Cricket.”

1 John 3:20-21:
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

Here are some things the Proverbs teach us about our heart:

Proverbs 4:23
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Proverbs 2:2
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Proverbs 10:8
The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

"Prating" means to talk in abundance or be careless.

Once again, we know in our heart of hearts if we are doing right or wrong.

1 John 3:20
20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

In conclusion, as believers we know and trust (we have faith) that our sins past, present, and future sins are forgiven. Knowing this, let us act appropriately as Romans 6:12-13 says:

Romans 6:12-13
12 Let not sin reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lust thereof
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of  unrighteousness  unto sin, but yields yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

With all this in mind, I'd like you to click on this link and listen to Keith Green’s version of "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful."
